Scheduling software for independent tutors
By the LinkMyCal team · Reviewed
Independent tutors can use LinkMyCal to publish lesson availability to selected contacts. After one-time account and calendar setup, returning customers find open lessons in Apple Calendar or Google Calendar. It is a scheduling workflow, not a student information system.
Plan around preparation, not just lesson length
A tutoring day often includes marking, lesson preparation and a short break between students. Decide how much time is genuinely available for teaching before opening your calendar to bookings.
For example, a three-hour afternoon can fit three 45-minute lessons when you reserve 15 minutes after each one. If preparation needs another half hour, reduce the available block first. Treat this as a planning example, not a promise of filled lessons.
Set up the person who will manage the booking
Choose the contact who is responsible for arranging lessons, then guide that person through the invitation and calendar connection. For a family, confirm your account and contact arrangement before sharing student information. Do not assume a dedicated parent portal or delegated child account is included.
Publish the lesson windows you want that contact to see. Before a school holiday or exam break, review future availability and your Blocked Time settings. Test what happens to an existing booking so families know what to expect.
Separate lesson scheduling from teaching administration
If every student has a fixed weekly lesson, check that your chosen booking process preserves that agreement. A repeating window of availability does not itself guarantee a reserved recurring lesson.
A tutoring center may also need attendance records, invoicing, staff allocation and student progress tracking. Evaluate those tools separately. LinkMyCal is worth testing when repeat customers want to find available time in their existing calendar; a one-off booking page can suit trial lessons.
A practical checklist
- Set teaching hours after deducting preparation and breaks.
- Confirm which adult or student contact will own the calendar connection.
- Pilot one lesson booking and one holiday change.
- Keep billing, safeguarding and student records in the appropriate separate systems.
